Rashtriya Kamdhenu Aayog - Development and Conservation of indigenous Breeds
Galvanizing Organic Bio-Agro Resources Dhan (GOBARdhan) is a vital umbrella initiative of Government of India, based on the whole of Government approach and aims to convert waste to wealth towards promoting circular economy. Government of India intends to build a robust ecosystem for setting up Biogas/Compressed Biogas (CBG)/ Bio-Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) plants to drive sustainable economic growth and promote a circular economy.
Continuing as part of the Rashtriya Pashudhan Vikas Yojna, the scheme has been extended from 2021 to 2026, with a budget outlay of ₹2400 crore. By improving cattle genetics and breeding practices, the RGM aims to increase milk yield, benefiting farmers—particularly small and marginal cattle owners. Moreover, this initiative significantly impacts women in agriculture, as over 70% of livestock farming activities are carried out by women. By strengthening dairy farming, the program empowers rural women through economic opportunities and self-reliance.
